Craig Russell

Craig Antony Russell

March 9, 1955 - May 12,2022

On a Thursday evening in May, we said goodbye to our dear friend and resident from South Africa, Craig, who passed away peacefully in his bed surrounded by his INN Between family. Shortly after Craig came to The INN Between, the world was slowly going on lockdown for the beginning of what became COVID-19. Over the last two years, he was able to be safe and cared for lovingly by staff, volunteers, his medical care team, hospice aids and nurses, and other residents. Thank you to everyone that poured out your compassion, dignity, and respect for him. Our gentle giant, we hope you made it home, we miss your smile already.

Craig Antony Russell, age 67, of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Craig was born March 9, 1955, in Durban South Africa to Fay Elaine Wills and Barrie Ivor Russell. He continued to spend much of his early life in Durban. During his schooling years he enjoyed playing rugby and was a competitive swimmer. After school he got his first job at Greatermans as a salesman in the gift department. As he moved up in positions, he and his wife relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa. During this time, Craig become very involved with the South African Democratic Party (DP). He helped start the local political party in his area. The goal of the DP was to allow all South African’s have a vote in their government. Craig’s careers lead him to starting several of his own businesses, which in turn led him to relocate to Salt Lake City in the early 2000’s.

Craig is remembered by his family and friends as a man who was always up for a good time. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a love for animals, Neil Diamond, the mountains of Utah, and South African sports. Craig also had many internal struggles, but his family knows that he is now in a place where he can lay those struggles to rest.

We cannot thank the good people of The INN Between enough for providing a loving place for Craig to spend his last days. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robin Bruce Russell. Craig is survived by his family, including his four children and six grandchildren.
