John Edward Lukaszewioz (loo-kah-SHEH-vitz) passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 61. John was born on December 29, 1954 in Herkimer, New York, to Joseph and Janette Lukaszewioz. He graduated from Herkimer Central High in Herkimer, NY.
John left the East coast and lived in Rock Springs, WY until early 2016 when he came to Salt Lake City. He became part of The INN Between family in May 2016 and lived with us until his passing.
John loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, fisherman and hunter. In his final months he could often be found reading National Geographic or doing crosswords. He would say, “only get me the hard ones! Nothing easy.” John enjoyed talking with anyone and everyone, and he was a great story teller and listener.
John was preceded in death by his father and his wife. He is survived by his mother Janette, brother, Joseph (wife Mary) of Pensacola, FL, and two sisters, Joanne (husband Jack) of Mystic, CT, and Janice (husband Bob) of Williamsport, PA.
We would like to thank Intermountain Healthcare Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful hospice care they provided to John, our 11th Hour Volunteer Team for providing companionship to John during his final days; our house manager Kathleen Maka who tended to John’s needs during his final hours, and our volunteer Janine who was with John when he died. John was the 10th person to experience death with dignity at The INN Between, and he will be missed by our staff and volunteers.
We would also like to thank Mr. Kummar Chatterjee, from Bombay, India, who sang mantra at John's bedside two days before he died, and then returned right after he died to chant and perform an end of life ritual.
The public is invited to attend John's memorial service, Monday, July 25, 2016, 11:00 am at The INN Between, 340 S. Goshen (1040 West), Salt Lake City. A complimentary luncheon will be served after the ceremony.
