Miguel Rivera

March 27, 1968 to September 26, 2022

Miguel Rivera, age 55, passed away peacefully in his bed on September 26th, 2022, after a seven-year battle with cancer. Miguel was born on March 27th, 1968, in Manhattan, New York to parents Miguel Rivera Sr. and Carmen Martinez. He earned his Bachelor degree in criminal justice and was considered a jack of all trades, working primarily in home repairs. His sister, Elizabeth, was dedicated to his care and he will be deeply missed by his family members. Miguel arrived at The INN Between on September 20th, 2022, and we were honored to welcome him home for what would be his last six days.

“Let the choices you make today, be choices you can live with tomorrow.”Miguel Angel Rivera Jr, age 54, peacefully passed away September 26, 2022 surrounded by his family after a 7-year battle with cancer. Like a true warrior he fought until the very end. Born March 27, 1968 in Manhattan, New York to Carmen Martinez and Miguel Rivera Sr. He was raised in Manhattan enjoying time outdoors playing as children do. He earned his Associate and Bachelor’s Degrees in Criminal Justice, and was a jack of all trades. He worked primarily in home repairs. Miguel enjoyed reading science fiction, watching goal & adventure TV shows, woodworking, and baseball…especially the New York Yankee’s. He enjoyed listening too salsa and merengue music, especially music by Camilo Sesto and José; José because they reminded him of our mother. Miguel will be missed deeply by his siblings Elizabeth Melendez-Garcia and spouse Benjamin of Utah, Richard Melendez and spouse Elizabeth of California, Joseph Collazo of Utah, and Caridad Martinez-Garcia of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren, and a large extended family; his dog, Corn. Preceded in death by his parents.

Toward the end of his life, Miguel became active in his Catholic faith. He believed in God and felt deep sorrow for mistakes and poor choices he made in his life, but as he turned to God, he asked to be forgiven. Miguel had a good heart. Miguel was close with his sister Elizabeth, and she took loving and tender care of him.

A viewing and rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 6-8:00 pm at Premier Funeral Services, 67 East 8000 South - Midvale, Utah. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday October 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 7832 Allen Street - Midvale, Utah with a viewing at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South - Millcreek, Utah.
